no you don't have to have a parent ride with you and no you don't need a permission slip. you do need to meet the height requirement which as others said is 42 inches or taller. and you should be aware that at least 2 people have to ride it but no more than 3 people can ride at the same time cuz it only holds 3 people.
I have seen children (they are of appropriate height) ride these rides, but they have always been with adults. However, Kennywood's website only mentions a 42'; height restriction. I would call the park to make sure. Also check on your school's field-trip policy; this attraction does require an additional fee for starters.

I am going to kennywood on tuesday and i am going to ride it for the first time, but no, if you aren't taller than 42 inch. you can't ride. but if you are taller, you can ride with whoever. I looked into it.
