Teach them proper manners and integrity. These traits will guide them through life and many problems along the way. What are the best qualities a parent could share with their children? Why?
joy, balance, a genuine interest in them, and discipline.
joy because children flourish under happy parents who can teach them to be optimistic and resilient even in the face of difficulty.
balance because it is important to teach children early that there is a time for everything. there is a time for lots of noise and excitement and movement, and there is a time for quiet and peace and stillness. there is a time for play and a time for work. there is a time for work and also a time for rest. balance is key in all things.
genuine interest results in kids who feel okay being themselves and in the gifts they have to offer. taking the time to connect with kids over the things that matter most to them and in life generally gives them a sense of self and a belief in their power to affect the people around them.
and discipline is almost too important for words. as a teacher, i am every day astounded by the kids who come into my classroom who have no sense of consequences, or boundaries, or respect. they are usually not malicious in their behavior--just shockingly undisciplined. there should be clear expectations for children in the home that value politeness and consideration and honesty and responsibility, and when they fall short, someone should be there to correct them and to enforce the consequences that go with that behavior.
Patience, kindness, open-mindedness, understanding, forgiveness, ambition, empathy, perseverance, a positive attitude, manners, a love for learning, and respect for all people.
The reason is obvious - a person who possesses these qualities will probably turn out to be an overall kind and hopefully successful person.
Integrity and respect for others.
Personal responsibility
Not to be ignorant about the good and bad in people.
Good morals and values.
