I work a full time grave yard shift and am wondering if the money I would bring in from foster parenting would be enough to quit my job. This has nothing to with the money. I really want to do this for the children. But I dont think I can work a graveyard shift and take care of young children. I really want o foster parent newborn to 2 years at first and she how this goes. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!I want to become a foster parent, but I'm wondering if the money would be enough to quit my job?
I'm a special needs adoption social work and I license foster homes. No the money will not be enough........For a healthy child under 2 in my state you would get about $400 a month. Hardly enough to properly care for the child...if you do it right you actually lose money being a foster parent.
Please don't do this as a way to quit your job, stay home and still get paid.
Also, there is little to no need for children under 3...EVERYONE wants the babies...and children that young are usually placed with family members. You'll be waiting forever.
If you really want to help the children, go older....but you can't foster and work the graveyard shift, you won't be home to supervise at night. I would never approve that unless you had another adult in the home.I want to become a foster parent, but I'm wondering if the money would be enough to quit my job?
Do you have any idea how attached you would become to a child you raised like your own, for even a little while? And then how heart breaking it would be to have to give him or her up to someone else, or back to the state, or to parents who couldn't take care of them in the first place?
What a horrible motivation money would be to take in a foster child...
Well its hard to say- I dont know how much you make, but I dont think it would be comparable. My aunt fosters, she has 1 severely disabled boy and a normal girl. She receives more money for the disabled boy. She also has a job.
You dont get that much- about 400/500 per month per child. Thats for clothes, food, school expenses, little things like haircuts, etc. You must treat them as your own.
It's normally between $400 to $600 a month, depending on where you live. Health costs are covered by the state. With the economy the way it is now though, foster care systems are stretched tight and those monthly payments are dropping in areas. Good luck!
Maybe you should try to find a different job. The money you get is NOT enough for you to quit work. And the likelihood that you would get kids that young is slim.
I think maybe you need to reevaluate why you want to foster.
It sounds like it has something to do with money...hmmm..and no its not enough money it barley covers cost of anything. And to be a foster parent you have to have a job.
not possible you won't even get enough to fully take care of the kids you get
No it isn't enough money to quit your job...
No it won't and a child will take up most of ur time
It really depends on how many at a time. I really don't know much about fostering, but I do breed golden retrievers and bloodhounds (breeds of dogs) and it is not enough for me to quit my job and my golden usually has 13 or more pups and bloodhound has always had 10 or once 11. You have to buy them each beds, toys, food, medicine if one gets sick. Be prepared for emergencies. I am not saying you can't and puppies are nothing compared to children, but it resembles.
